Lower (spr. Lo' r), Richard, geb. 1531 zu Trenmore in Cornwallis, war Arzt zu London u. starb hier 1691. Er verrichtete 1666 zu Oxford zuerst die Transfusion des Blutes, obgleich mit Unrecht er für deren Erfinder ausgegeben wird. Nach ihm ist genannt das Lowersche Knötchen (s.u. Herz); er schr.: De corde, Lond. 1719 u. ö.; Bromographia, Amst. 1669 (deutsch, Lpz. 1702; empfiehlt eine Abkochung des Hafers, Lowers Hafertrank), mit etwas Sandelholz u. mit Salpeter u. Zucker versetzt.
