Stopford, Sir Montagu, vierter Sohn des Grafen von Courtown, geb. 1798, trat 1810 in den Marinedienst u. machte 1811 den Eroberungszug nach Java mit; später diente er auf der Alceste, begleitete den Gesandten Amherst nach China u. kehrte 1817 nach England zurück, bei welcher Fahrt er Schiffbruch litt; 1855 diente er auf der Flotte gegen Rußland im Schwarzen Meere, wurde 1863 Admiral u. st. im November 1864 in Edinburg.
