Marsh, 1) Herbert, geb. 1757 in London, studirte in Oxford, Göttingen u. Leipzig, wurde 1807 Professor der Theologie in Cambridge, 1816 Bischof von Llandaff, 1819 von Peterborough u. st. 1839. Er hielt zuerst seine Vorlesungen in englischer Sprache u. schr.: On the origin of the three first gospels, 1802; A comp. view of the churches of England and Rome, 1814, u. andere theologische Schriften; ferner Horae Pelasgicae, 1814; u. übersetzte Michaelis Einleitung insn. T., 1792–1801, 4 Bde. 2) James, geb. 1789, Chemiker, Erfinder des Marsh'schen Apparates (s.d.); st. 1846 in London, wo er am Arsenal angestellt war. 3) George P., geb. 1801 in Woodstock im Staate Vermont; besuchte das Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, ging dann nach Burlington, studirte Rechtswissenschaften, prakticirte daselbst u. nahm Antheil an der Politik; wurde Mitglied der Legislatur seines Geburtsstaates, 1842 Mitglied im Repräsentantenhause u. 1840–53 Ministerresident in der Türkei.
