Publĭcum

Publĭcum (v. lat.), 1) die Gesammtheit einer gemischten, aber zu einem Zweck verbundnen Menschenmasse, als das lesende, schreibende, musikalische P., Theaterpublicum etc.; 2) das P. einer Stadt od. eines ganzen Landes, z.B. das deutsche P., in welchem Sinne es dann auch dem Begriff Volk entspricht; 3) (Collegium publicum), eine öffentliche Vorlesung, für welche kein Honorar bezahlt wird.
