Rank, ein Schiff ist rank, wenn es sich bei einem Seitenwinde sehr leicht auf die Seite neigt u. dadurch in Gefahr ist, zu kentern. Ursache davon die zu schmale Bauart od. auch Mangel an Ballast; daher Rankigkeit, der Zustand eines Schiffes, wo es zu wenig geladen hat u. also zu leicht ist.
