Reccesuinth, Sohn Chindesuinths, seit 649 Mitregent u. seit 652 Nachfolger seines Vaters als König der Westgothen in Spanien; er hatte mit den, über seine Thronbesteigung unzufriedenen Großen viel Streit, gewann aber die Unzufriedenen durch Erlaß einer Amnestie, die Städte durch Zurückgabe ihrer verlorenen Rechte u. das platte Land durch Verminderung der Steuern; er hielt übrigens auf Ordnung, Gerechtigkeit u. Kirchenzucht, gab ein Gesetzbuch, welches in ganz Spanien galt, u. begünstigte Künste u. Wissenschaften; gleichwohl machten die Großen wieder Verschwörungen gegen ihn, weshalb er sich auf ein Landgut bei Salamanca begab; er st. hier 672.
