Redan, 1) Absätze an Mauern, welche an dem Abhange eines Berges, z.B. bei Weinbergen, herablaufen; 2) leichtes Erdwerk in Form einer Flesche; Courtinen verbinden gewöhnlich diese einzelnen R-s mit einander, u. dergleichen R-s wurden bes. sonst zur Befestigung verschanzter Linien u. dgl. gebraucht. Die R-s werden höchstens 300 Schritt von einander gelegt, damit sie sich gegenseitig noch mit Flinterfeuer unterstützen können.
