Regulators

Regulators, eine 1839 in Arcansas gegen die zahlreichen Eigenthumsverbrechen geschlossene Verbindung von Männern, welche zugleich Gesetzgeber, Gensd'armen, Richter u. Executoren sind. Das Verfahren ist ganz summarisch, u. Gericht u. Strafe wird auf der Stelle gehalten u. executirt. Wenn Einer der Ansiedler ein Verbrechen begeht, so wird er verbannt, erscheint er wieder in dem District u. begeht ein neues Verbrechen, so wird seine Wohnung zerstört, er selbst von den berittenen R. aufgesucht u. wenn man ihn gefangen hat, ausgepeitscht, erschossen u. sein Kopf auf einen Pfahl gesteckt. Widersetzliche Verbrecher werden auch in ihren Verstecken von den R. niedergeschossen. Ist sein Verbrechen kein todeswürdiges, so verhängen sie andere Strafen über ihn, z.B. nackt durch ein Nesselfeld zu laufen. Vgl. Gerstäcker, Die R. in Arcansas, Lpz. 1846.
