Ruschenberger

Ruschenberger, W. S. W., geb. 1807 in der Grafschaft Cumberland im Staate New Jersey, studirte Medicin u. nahm 1826 als Hülfschirurg Dienste in der Marine; wurde 1830 nach Washington stationirt, diente aber bald darauf im Stillen Meere; 1835 zum Chirurgen auf der in Ostindien stationirten Flotte ernannt, umsegelte er die Erde u. kehrte Ende 1837 nach Philadelphia zurück. 1843 wurde er zum Arzte an dem Marinehospital zu Brooklyn, 1848 abermals zum Chirurgen des ostindischen Geschwaders u. 1849 zum Mitgliede des Marinebüreaus ernannt; er schr.: Three years in the Pacific, 1834; A voyage round the World in 1835–37, Lond. 1838; Elements of Natural History, Philad. 1850, 2 Bde.; Lexicon of terms in Natural His tory, New York 1850 u.v.a.
