Ruspŏli, fürstliche Familie, im Kirchenstaat (wo sie die Baronie Vignanello u. das Fürstenthum Cerveteri besitzt), Ungarn u. Siebenbürgen begütert, erhielt 1709 die Fürstenwürde von Cervetro, 1721 die Fürstenwürde des Römischen Stuhls,[469] 1839 die Würde als Maestro del S. Ospizio u. 1820 als Grand von Spanien. Gründer der Familie ist ein edler Schotte, welcher mit Kaiser Friedrich Barbarossa nach Italien kam; sie hieß früher Mariscotti u. nahm erst 1710 den Namen R. an, als sich Franz Mariscotti mit Victoria, der Erbtochter des R. von Siena, vermählte. Ein R. war bis 1803 Großmeister des Johanniterordens. Jetziges Haupt der Familie: Don Johann Nepomuk, Fürst von Cerveteri, Sohn des 1842 verstorbenen Fürsten Alexander, geb. 5. Juni 1807, Maestro del sacro Ospizio, General der päpstlichen Truppen; war vermählt seit 1832 mit Barbara, Prinzessin von Massimo (geb. 1813, gest. 1849); sein ältester Sohn ist Don Franz Maria, geb. 1839.
