Satyr, 1) (Myth.), s. Satyrn; 2) (Satyrus), vermeintliche Menschenart, aber, wie sich gezeigt, Geschöpfe, welche zum Affengeschlecht gehören u. langgeschwänzt sind; vgl. Affe, Satyrn u. Satyrorum insulae; 3) so v.w. Orang-Utang; 4) (Nepaul, Tragopan satyrus), Art aus der Gattung Fasan; hat an der Kehle einen blauen, braungestreiften [949] Lappen, braunröthlich Gefieder mit weißen, schwarzringeligen Flecken, rothen Scheitel, auf der Stirn haarartige schwarze Federn, hinter den Augen zwei rückwärts stehende, blaue Hörner (nur bei Männchen); 5) so v.w. Satyrsalter.
