Service

Service (fr., spr. Serwihs), 1) der Dienst; 2) verschiedene Geschirre, welche zu einem gewissen Gebrauch zusammengehören u. auf einerlei Art verfertigt sind. Zu einem Kaffeeservice gehört eine Kaffeekanne, eine Rahmkanne, 1/2, 1 od. 2 Dutzend Kaffeetassen; auch rechnet man bisweilen noch dazu Zuckerdose u. das Kaffeebret; im weiteren Sinne auch Kaffeelöffel, Kaffeetisch, Kaffeetuch, eine große Schale zum Ausspülen der Kaffeetassen u. einen Präsentirteller, auf welchem die Tassen herumgereicht werden. Zu einem Tafelservice, dessen Stärke meist von der Zahl der Personen abhängt, für welche das S. bestimmt ist, mindestens 1 od. 2 Terrinen, 4–8 Schüsseln für Fleisch u. Gemüse, 4–6 Bratenschüsseln, eben so viele Saucieren mit Tellern dazu, 2–4 Präsentirteller für Obst u. Dessert, 2–4 Schüsseln für Fische, Krebse, Austern u. dgl., 2–3 Dutzend Suppenteller, 6–10 Dutzend Speiseteller, 2–3 Dutzend Dessertteller. 3) Geld, welches den in Cantonirung stehenden Soldaten von dem Quartierwirth gegeben werden muß, z.B. Beleuchtung, Feuermaterial zum Kochen, Salz etc. Statt dessen müssen in manchen Ländern, wie in Preußen, die Grundbesitzer gewisse Abgaben (Servicegelder) an die Militärkassen entrichten, wovon theils die Casernenausgaben bestritten, theils die Quartiergelder an die Offiziere bezahlt werden.
