Spring Garden, 1) District der Grafschaft Philadelphia im Staate Pennsylvanien (Nordamerika), früher Vorstadt (Suburb), seit 1854 aber Stadttheil von Philadelphia (s.d. 2), am Schuylkill River, nördlich von der eigentlichen City gelegen; enthält das Eastern State Penitentiary (Arbeitshaus [Zellengefängniß], s.u. Philadelphia 2) u. die Fairmount Water-works, welche ganz Philadelphia mit Wasser aus dem Schuylkill River versorgen. 1850_: 47,223 Ew. S. G. hat seine eigene Municipalverfassung mit eigner Municipalbehörde (Board of Commissioners); 2) Städtischer Bezirk mit Postamt (Post-township) in der Grafschaft York des Staates Pennsylvanien, 10,000 Ew.; enthält York, die Hauptstadt der Grafschaft.
