Stigma (gr.), 1) so v.w. Stigme; 2) Brandmal, welches in Griechenland den Verbrechern, bes. Sklaven, eingebrannt wurde; ein solcher hieß daher Stigmatias, s. Sklaverei S. 173; 3) ein den Hexen eingebranntes Zeichen am Leib, s.u. Hexe S. 356; 4) eine kleine Hautstelle, welche durch Verunstaltung eine frühere Beschädigung der Haut verräth; als Narbe etc.; 5) ein Punkt der Haut von verschiedener Färbung ohne Erhöhung der Epidermis als Hautkrankheit, z.B. die Blatterstippe, ein Flohstich, kleines Maal; 6) bei zweiflügeligen Insecten ein dunkler Fleck, welcher sich an dem Vorderrande der Flügel vieler Arten zeigt; 7) bei Insecten kleine Hautöffnungen als Gefäßöffnungen auf beiden Seiten des Körpers, durch welche diese Thiere Athem holen; 8) so v.w. Narbe, s.u. Blüthe I. B) c); 9) Abbreviatur für das griechische σ u. τ (ζ), bes. gebraucht als Zahlzeichen für 6.
