Stint, 1) Eidechse, so v.w. Stinz; 2) Osmerus Artedi, Gattung der Lachse, im Gaumen zwei Reihen Zähne, am Ober- u. Unterkiefer aber nur einzelne, rückwärtsgekrümmte; die Kiemenhaut ist achtstrahlig, die Schuppen klein u. weich; Art: S. (Flußstint, Alander, O. eperlanus, Salmo ep.), hat vorragenden Unterkiefer, fast durchsichtigen Körper, unangenehmen Geruch, wohlschmeckendes Fleisch, wird gegen 3 Zoll lang, steigt in die Flüsse zur Laichzeit, wird in großer Menge gefangen; größer (bis zu 1 Fuß) ist der Seestint (S. [839] eperlanomarinus); ihm ähnlich ist der Grönländische Häring (Angmarset, S. arcticus), Lieblingsspeise der Grönländer; 3) ein kleiner silbergrauer Fisch, welcher in großen Massen beim Ausfischen von Hauptteichen vorkommt u. dessen Erscheinung noch nicht erklärt ist. Der S. wird wie andere Fische in Salzwasser gekocht u. gegessen.
