Tokat, Stadt am Kisil-Irmak (Tosanlu) im türkischen Ejalet Siwas (Kleinasien), ist befestigt, hat Citadelle, gepflasterte Straßen, viele Moscheen u. christliche Kirchen, armenischen Erzbischof, Klöster, schöne Hane, Bazars, Bäder, Castell; man fertigt Saffian, Leinwand, Seidenwaaren, baumwollene Zeuge, Knöpfe, bes. aber gesuchte Kupferwaaren u. treibt damit, so wie mit Blei u. Safran (beides in der Nähe) Handel; die Stadt liegt amphitheatralisch auf u. an einigen Hügeln u. hat 60,000 Ew. Im Alterthume lag unweit T. die berühmte Stadt Komana Pontika. Bei T. 1527 Niederlage der Türken durch die karamanischen Empörer.
