Tromsöe, 1) Stift in Norwegen, 1972 QM. mit 133,000 Ew., umfaßt die Ämter Nordland u. Finnmarken; 2) Insel an der Küste des vorigen; gehört zur Gruppe Senjen, nördlich der Lofodden; darauf liegt 3) die Hauptstadt des Stiftes (der Sitz des Bischofs ist jedoch in Alstahong); hat Hafen, Kirche, Provianthaus, Handel, lappländische Buchdruckerei, Gelehrte Schule, Theater u. 3000 Ew.
