Tyāna

Tyāna, durch Kunst u. Natur befestigte Stadt im District Tyanītis in Kappadokien, am Fuße des Taurus; dabei ein Tempel des Zeus mit einem Teich in morastiger Gegend; aus diesem Teich sprudelte die Quelle Asbamäon mit kochendem u. heißem Wasser hervor. T. war Vaterstadt des Visionärs Apollonios (s.d. 13); jetzt Kilis Hissar, südwestlich von Nikbeh, wo sich Teich u. Quell noch finden. T. war seit der Zeit des Kaisers Caracalla römische Colonie, gehörte nachher zum Reiche der Zenobia, wurde 272 n. Chr. von Aurelianus erobert u. unter Valens zur Hauptstadt von Cappadocia secunda gemacht. In T. wurde 368 eine Synode in Sachen der Arianischen Streitigkeiten gehalten. T. wurde 709 von den Sarazenen erobert.
