Lachis, Stadt im Stamme Juda, früher Sitz eines kananitischen Häuptlings Japhia; wurde von Rehabeam befestigt; Amasia wurde hier getödtet; Sanherib, König von Assyrien, belagerte es; nach dem Exil wurde es wieder hergestellt; angeblich beim j. Um Lakis.
