Southgate (spr. Saushget), Horatio, geb. 1812 zu Portland im Staate Maine; studirte Theologie in Andover, trat 1834 zur Episkopalischen Kirche über, bereiste den Orient u. wurde 1844 zum Missionsbischof für die Türkei ernannt; 1850 resignirte er, wurde 1851 Rector der St. Marcuskirche in Portland u. 1852 der Adventkirche in Boston. Er schr.: Narrative of a tour through Armenia, Kurdistan, Persia and Mesopotamia, New York 1841, 2 Bde.; Narrative of a visit to Syrian church of Mesopotamia etc., ebd. 1844; Practical directions far Lent, 1850.
