Castro, 1) Herzogthum, einverleibt der Delegation Viterbo im Kirchenstaate; wurde von Paul III. an seinen Sohn Peter Aloys von Farnese, nachherigen Herzog von Parma u. Piacenza, gegeben; 1640 an den Monte di Pietà in Rom verpfändet u. 1660 das Herzogthum zur päpstlichen Kammer gezogen; die Herzöge von Parma entsagten erst 1736 ihren Ansprüchen; 2) Städt am Adriatischen Meer, in der neapolitanischen Provinz Terra d'Otranto; Hafen; Wein, Getreide, Südfrüchte, Baumwolle, Tabak; 8000 Ew.; Geburtsort des Rechtsgelehrten Paul de Castro. C. wurde 1537 von den Türken genommen u. geplündert.
