Capital [1]

Capital (v. lat.), 1) der oberste Theil einer Sache; 2) (Bank.), so v.w. Capitäl; 3) (Buchdr.), so v.w. Capitalsteg; 4) (Capitälen), zwei starke Eisenbleche, wovon eins an der oberen breiten Fläche u. eins links an dem Karren der Buchdruckerpresse angebracht ist, zwischen welchen vermittelst Stegen (Capitalstegen) die Form fest eingekeilt wird; 5) (Buchb.), Pergamentstreif od. Stückchen Band, welches am Rücken eines Buches oben u. unten angeleimt u. mit Seide umstochen wird; daher Capitalen, ein Buch mit diesen Streifen versehen; 6) (Chir.), so v.w. Capeline 3); 7) der Haupttheil einer Sache od. dieser in Vollkommenheit, bes. in Zusammensetzungen.
